Welcome

Hello! We’re so glad you’re here. Allow us to introduce ourselves.

We are Schools of Hope. We are an AmeriCorps project. We are a group of individuals and a community of volunteers, dedicated to changing lives through an evidenced-based model of tutoring intervention. We work with K-5 students in high need schools throughout Madison and Sun Prairie, Wisconsin. But we are more than just tutors, AmeriCorps members, or students. We are a coalition of humans that have dedicated a year of our lives to kids, education, and literacy in the pursuit of a common goal: Literacy proficiency in students, through needs-based intervention.

In this blog, you’ll read the voices of AmeriCorps members past and present, reflecting on our time of service. You’ll read stories about students, teachers, technology, and of course, books. You’ll encounter our hopes; our concerns; our triumphs.

We believe through literacy intervention and one-on-one tutoring, we can do more than improve children’s literacy skills. Our highest purpose is to help them build their self-esteem and to fall in love with learning, one word at a time. In tandem, we will grow and evolve as professionals, educators, and citizens. To teach is to learn. To serve is to grow. In schools, we can help to build hope. At the same time, we are also building ourselves.

The Schools of Hope Team 2020-2021

Although our 2020-2021 service will look a little different than years passed, we are so glad to be here. Take a peek through this site if you’d like to learn more about what we’ve been up to. Thanks for visiting!
